10 injured, 2 seriously in single-vehicle crash on I-287 exit ramp in Morris County
RIVERDALE BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County)– Ten people were injured, two seriously, following a single-vehicle crash on an Interstate 287 exit ramp Tuesday morning in Morris County, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Charles Marchan.
The crash happened at around 2:58 a.m. on Interstate 287 northbound at milepost 53.7 in Riverdale Borough, Marchan said.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Ford Transit van, driven by Aron Dirnfeld, 20, of New Square, NY was traveling north on Interstate 287 and while traveling on the Exit 53 ramp, the van traveled off the roadway, impacted a curb, traveled over a grass median, and became airborne, Marchan said.
The van subsequently traveled over the entrance ramp and guardrail before impacting several trees and traveling down an embankment, Marchan said.
As a result of the crash, Dirnfeld and front passenger, a 15-year-old of Monsey, NY, suffered serious injuries. The 8 other occupants suffered minor injuries, Marchan said.
The crash remains under investigation and no additional information was available, Marchan said.
