Fisher-Price, Kids2 again recall sleepers as infant fatalities continue

Fisher-Price is recalling about 4.7 million models of Rock ‘n Play sleepers and Kids2 is recalling about 692,000 models of Rocking Sleepers as infant fatalities continue.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, infant fatalities have occurred in the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers and Rocking Sleepers after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances.

Consumers should stop using all models of the Rock ‘n Play and all models of the Rocking Sleepers immediately and contact the companies for a refund or voucher. It is illegal to sell or distribute the recalled sleepers.

On April 12, 2019, at the time the original recall was announced, over 30 fatalities were reported to have occurred in the Rock ‘n Play Sleepers after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances. Since the recall, approximately 70 additional fatalities have been reported, which includes at least 8 fatalities that were reported to have occurred after the initial recall announcement.

Approximately 100 deaths have reportedly occurred while infants were in the products. Fisher-Price notes that in some of the reports, it has been unable to confirm the circumstances of the incidents or that the product was a Rock ‘n Play Sleeper.

A total of 15 infant fatalities were reported to have occurred in the Kids2 Rocking Sleepers, after the infants rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained, or under other circumstances. Eleven deaths were reported to have occurred before the recall, (including five deaths previously reported by CPSC and Kids2 at the time of the original recall).

Four fatalities were reported to have occurred after the recall was announced. Kids2 notes that in some of the reports, it has been unable to confirm the circumstances of the incidents or that the product was a Rocking Sleeper.

The Rock ‘n Play sleepers were sold at major stores nationwide including Walmart, Target, and online at Amazon from September 2009 through April 2019 for between $40 and $149.

The Rocking Sleepers were sold at major retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Target and Toys “R” Us and online from March 2012 through April 2019 for between $40 and $80.
