Mansfield Twp DPW Superintendent arrested after making a false report to police

MANSFIELD TWP, N.J. (Warren County) – A Mansfield Township Department of Public Works superintendent was arrested last Monday after making a false report to township police that a tree limb fell on a town owned vehicle.

Kevin W. Ward, 56, of Lebanon Township reported to police on June 8, 2016 at 3:06 pm that while on O’Brien Road a tree limb had fallen on Ward’s township owned Ford Explorer causing extensive damage to the rear hatch/roof area, police said.

The damage was inconsistent with what was reported and an investigation was started, according to a news release.

Police concluded that Ward backed into a tree further up the road causing the reported damage. Ward had placed dirt inside the wound on the tree making it difficult to locate and plastic from the damaged vehicle had been thrown into the woods.

Ward was charged on June 20 with making a false report to police, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, careless driving, and littering. Ward was released pending a court appearance.
