Slam Dunk Case: DWI Driver Hits Vehicle, Leaves With License Plate Stuck To The Hitch

Hackettstown, NJ (Warren County) – No one was hurt Saturday evening when a parked vehicle was hit by a drunken driver in Hackettstown, police said.

Police said the crash happened at the intersection of Route 46 and Valentine St at about 6:33 p.m. An eyewitness took down the license plate number of the pickup that hit the parked minivan and provided that information to police. The pickup fled the crash scene, but the impact attached the minivans front license plate to the hitch of the pickup.

Police tracked the pickup and its driver,Richard Montgomery,43, to his home on the 600 block of East Baldwin St in Hackettstown . Police said Montgomery was observed exiting the vehicle and smelled of alcohol. Police observed the minivans license plate still attached to the pickups hitch.

Montgomery was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident. Montgomery was released pending a court appearance.
