Uncle high in truck while 15-year-old goes over 100 mph, police say

RIVERDALE, N.J. (Morris County) – A 15-year-old boy from Wayne, NJ is facing charges after police caught him exceeding 100 miles per hour on the highway with an uncle in the truck, police said.

On June 28, 2016 at 8:46 p.m. Patrolman. Mike Reilly stopped a white Dodge Pick up on Route 287 North for speeding 103 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. police said.

Patrolman Reilly asked the driver for his license he discovered that the driver was a 15-year-old male. The juvenile stated that he was driving his Uncle to the hospital, according to a news release.

It was claimed that the uncle, later identified as Ricardo Baez 66 of Reading PA, was diabetic and the juvenile was taking him to the hospital. An ambulance was called for Baez but he refused medical attention, police said.

Baez appeared to be under the influence. His eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred. An odor of burnt marijuana was detected on Baez. When questioned, Baez admitted to smoking marijuana, police said.

An ambulance from the Pompton Lakes/ Riverdale FAS responded and determined that Baez did not need require medical attention, police said.

Baez was charged with Being Under the Influence of CDS (a disorderly person offense).

The juvenile, whose name was not released due to his age, was charged with Unlicensed Driver and Speeding 103mph in a 65mph. The juvenile was released to his parents.

All charges will be heard in Riverdale Municipal Court.
