3 arrested; 150 bags of heroin, $1,000 seized in Newton

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – Three Sussex County residents are facing drug charges after police received anonymous tips about drug activity.

A cooperative investigation conducted by the Newton Police Department and the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force culminated in the arrest of two local men and one woman, Newton Police Chief Michael Richards said.

Working from several tips received through the Newton Police Department’s anonymous Text-a-Tip service regarding drug activity in the area of Pine Street in Newton, an investigation was initiated, Richards said.

On Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., Detectives stopped a car that was occupied by Christina Delotto, 39, of Newton and Brian Johnson, 32, of Frankford Twp.  Delotto and Johnson were in possession of heroin, packaging supplies and US currency.  The two were taken into custody and further investigation was conducted, Richards said.

Police recovered approximately 150 bags of heroin and nearly $1000 in cash, Richards said.

Johnson was charged with third degree distribution of heroin and Delotto was charged with third degree possession of heroin.

The investigation also led to the arrest of John Pierro, 46, of Newton and he was charged with third degree distribution of heroin.

All three were released pending a court appearance at Sussex County Superior Court.
