MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Budd Lake woman was killed after a two-car crash in Mount Olive Township Tuesday morning.
The crash happened at the intersection of Bartley Road and River Road in the Flanders section of the township at 6:24 a.m., police said.
A police investigation determined that Yvonne Riporti-Lombardo, 62, of Budd Lake, NJ was operating a 2006 Honda Civic and failed to stop at the stop sign on River Road. Her vehicle then crossed into the lane of travel of a 2015 Ford Explorer that was traveling south on Bartley Road, which was being driven by Melissa Benbrook, 36, of Long Valley, NJ, police said.
The Ford Explorer impacted the driver’s side of Riporti-Lombardo’s vehicle, police said.
As a result of the crash, Riporti-Lombardo’s vehicle rotated after the initial impact until coming to a final rest in the opposite lane of travel, police said.
A passenger in Riporti-Lombardo’s vehicle and Benbrook were both transported to Hackettstown Medical Center for treatment, however did not suffer significant medical injuries as a result of the crash, police said.
Riporti-Lombardo was also transported to Hackettstown Medical Center where she died as a result of the injuries she sustained in the crash, police said.
The roadway was detoured for approximately 3 hours as the crash was investigated.
The Mount Olive Police Department was assisted with the crash investigation by members from the Morris County Prosecutors Office, Vehicular Homicide Unit and members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Criminal Investigative Section. The Flanders Fire & First Aid Squad and Atlantic Ambulance also assisted at the scene.
