Cop, firefighter treated for smoke inhalation after restaurant fire in Jefferson

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A police officer and a firefighter suffered smoke inhalation following a restaurant fire Wednesday morning.

At 10:30 a.m., township police received a report of a structure fire located at Upstream Grille, 161 Route 181 Lake Hopatcong, Jefferson Township Police Detective Joseph Kratzel

Officer Stokes arrived on scene and evacuated the restaurant, Kratzel said.

A Jefferson Township police officer and a Picatinny firefighter were transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation, Kratzel said.

Jefferson Township Fire Company 1 & 2, Jefferson Rescue Squad, Sparta Fire and Picatinny Fire responded and brought the fire under control, Kratzel said.

Jefferson Township Police Detective Hecht determined the fire was accidental and appears to be electrical in nature, Kratzel said.
