Investigation continues into fatal crash involving NJ State Police cruiser in Hunterdon County

LEBANON BOROUGH, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A fatal crash involving a New Jersey State Police trooper has shut down Route 22 on Sunday morning.

The crash happened at 7:57 a.m. on Route 22 westbound at the intersection with Cokesbury Road, State Police Sgt. Jeff Flynn said.

The driver of the GMC Envoy was pronounced dead at the scene and the passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center, Flynn said.

The state trooper was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The trooper has since be released from the hospital, Flynn said.

Names of the victims were not released.

Flynn said more information will be released Monday morning as authorities are still investigating the crash.

As of this afternoon, Route 22 has been reopened in both directions.
