Roxbury Twp. Man acts like the Joker, spits into electrical outlet, police say

HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A Roxbury Township man is facing charges after he allegedly possessed marijuana and acted disorderly Sunday morning.

Jake Henzler, 30, of Succasunna was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

At 3:54 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Lackawanna Trail for a report of an unwanted guest, Hopatcong Captain Thomas Kmetz said.

A police investigation revealed, Henzler went there for a female and then her brother kicked him out, Kmetz said.

Henzler started to cry, then he started to laugh like the Joker in the movie Batman. He told the officers he wanted to kill himself and looked like he was about to run away, Kmetz said.

Henzler was handcuffed and searched for officer safety. He had a prescription bottle with green vegetation suspected to be marijuana in his pocket. He was taken to police headquarters to be charged and to get a ride, Kmetz said.

While at police headquarters, Henzler was licking his lips and demanded the officers give him his “weed” back. At one point he started spitting into an electrical outlet yelling that he wanted to electrocute himself, Kmetz said.

The officers put a spit hood on Henzler but he was able to lean down and tear it off. He kept standing up trying to break a leather handcuff belt that was attached to the prisoner bench. After a while he was able to break this belt, Kmetz said.

A Newton mental health screener was contacted and could hear Henzler in the background and told the officers to bring him to Newton Medical Center. As Henzler was leaving the station he would not walk and needed to be carried out by the officers. He also cursed at the volunteer Hopatcong EMS members on scene, Kmetz said.

Henzler was charged Monday and it’s unknown what made him act so odd, Kmetz said.
