Colts Neck, NJ (Monmouth County) – 4 dead in NJ mansion fire, authorities investigating as arson.
At around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to 15 Willow Brook Road in Colt’s Neck. Upon arrival, firefighters found the home engulfed in flames, with one person laying in the yard. Firefighting efforts began, and fire crews found three additional “badly burned people” inside of the burning home.
At the time of the 4:30 p.m. press conference Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni, “more then 20 fire departments continued to work and suppress the fire.” The prosecutor’s office will not be able to start the investigation until the fire department turns the scene over, and this will happen when the structure is safe to enter.
The fire is being investigated as an arson; however, Gramiccioni said: “it’s important to emphasize that the community is not in danger at this time.”
According to public tax records, the home is owned by Keith and Jennifer Caneiro. Gramiccioni stated the office is not identifying the victims at this time.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that the victim found in the front lawn had suffered a gunshot wound. However, Gramiccioni would not confirm these reports.
According to a LinkedIn Profile, Keith Caneiro was the Founder, CEO, and Chief Technology Officer of Square One located in Asbury Park.
A fire was reported earlier in the morning in Ocean Township at 27 Tilton Drive. Paul and Susan Caneiro own that home. Gramiccioni said, “they are investigating this fire as arson as well.” However, would not elaborate any further as to if he thought they were related.
According to Colts Neck Acting Chief Frank Leccese, he was not aware of any police activity at the address in the past.
The Prosecutors Office along with the Colts Neck Police Department is urging anyone with information to report it immediately.
