Accused drunk driver crashes into parked car in liquor store parking lot

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sparta woman accused of crashing into a parked vehicle in the parking lot of a liquor store Friday evening has been charged with driving while intoxicated, according to Sparta Township Police Lieutenant John Lamon.

Margaret Laureys, 53, was charged with DWI, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, fail to wear seatbelt, fail to inspect, driving while suspended, careless driving and failing to surrender suspended driver’s license.

At around 9:00 p.m., police responded to the parking lot of the Liquor Factory, located at 41 Woodport Road, for a reported motor vehicle accident, Lamon said.

Through a police investigation, it was revealed that a black Toyota Corolla, driven by Laureys, allegedly struck a GMC Envoy, Lamon said.

It was determined that Laureys had consumed alcoholic beverages. After the completion of field sobriety tests, Laureys was placed under arrest, Lamon said.

Laureys was advised of a mandatory court date and released to a sober adult.
