At 4:29 a.m., Officer Northern had been investigating a reported hit-and-run motor vehicle accident on Newton-Sparta Road near Limecrest Road in front of Domino’s Pizza, police said.

During the investigation, a white Volkswagen Jetta drive by Patel had struck the rear of the officer’s patrol car and sideswiped the driver’s side.
