Authorities continue to search for suspect in Phillipsburg shooting

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ (Warren County) – Authorities continue to search for a suspect responsible for a shooting that a left a man injured early Friday morning in Phillipsburg, according to Warren County Prosecutor Richard Burke.

At around 1:32 a.m., Phillipsburg Police Officer Widemond was on patrol in the area of Hudson St when he learned of a shooting that had just occurred outside of the Hiltop Café, located at 148 Hudson St, Burke said.

The initial investigation revealed that the suspect, described as a short black male, fled on foot, Burke said.

It was further determined that a friend transported the victim, who was identified as Steven Margeson, to Easton Hospital in his person vehicle, Burke said.

Margeson had surgery for gunshot wounds to the torso, Burke said.

The suspect remains unidentified and at large, Burke said.

The Phillipsburg Police Department and the Major Crimes Unit of the Warren County Prosecutors Office are pursuing leads as the matter is currently under investigation.
