Byram Twp. resident killed by hit-and-run driver in Newark

NEWARK, NJ (Essex County) – A Byram Township resident and student at New Jersey Institute of Technology was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Newark Tuesday evening, according to Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II.

Naomi R. Segura, 25, was struck at around 9:20 p.m. in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Summit Street in Newark, Stephens said.

Segura sustained life threatening injuries and was rushed to University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Wednesday at 1:10 a.m., Stephens said.

The car that struck Segura did not stop but the driver of another car did and called for help, Stephens said.

The investigation is active and ongoing, Stephens said.
