Checks stolen from mailbox at Long Valley Post Office, altered and cashed

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – If you dropped a check in an outgoing mailbox at the Long Valley Post Office, you might want to check if it reached its destination. 

Washington Township police are investigating numerous complaints involving checks that have been altered and cashed under fraudulent identities, police said.

The incidents occurred over the past two weeks and all of the checks were placed in the outgoing mailbox at the Long Valley Post Office, police said.

All of these incidents are currently under investigation by the Washington Township Police Departments Detective Bureau.

If any other incidents have occurred and have not been reported you’re asked to call police at 908-876-3232 and press “0” for a Communication Officers, or any resident can stop at police headquarters to speak with an officer.
