Dump truck with bed lifted hits overpass on I-78 in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County)  – A dump truck with its bed lifted hit an overpass on Interstate 78 in Readington Township early Saturday morning.

The crash happened at 4:50 a.m. on Interstate 78 eastbound at mile marker 24.4

State Police spokesman Trooper Alejandro Goez said the truck ‘s bed was in the up position when it struck the Taylors Mill Road overpass. Driver Eliane Florentino, 49, of Kearny, NJ and passenger Erika Nastinento, 45, of Newark NJ were both taken to Hunterdon Medical Center with minor “non-life threatening” injures. The truck is registered to Castillo Trucking from Kearny, NJ.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have yet been filed, according to Goez.

Two right lanes were closed and all lanes were reopened at around 8:30 a.m. The overpass itself was closed by the Department of Transportation for an inspection.
