Elf on the Shelf causes fire response to New Jersey home

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – An Elf on The Shelf who arrived early caused a fire response to a home in Hunterdon County Sunday evening.

At around 7:00 p.m., firefighters responded to a report of “burning odor” in a residence in Franklin Twp, according to a post on the Quakertown NJ Fire Company-91 Fire/Rescue Facebook page.

When first responders arrived, they confirmed a burning odor in the residence.

A search of the family room found an “Elf on the Shelf” sitting on a light with some smoke showing.

“Pre-mature Christmas decorating contributed to this incident, firefighters said.

No children were harmed or witnessed the incident.

Elf on the Shelf is the eyes and ears of Santa Claus checking on who’s naughty and nice. He’s said to be hiding in homes from Thanksgiving to Christmas, flying back and forth to the North Pole to make a full report on good deeds and bad.
