Explosion destroys Sussex County home; Wallkill Valley Regional HS damaged

HARDYSTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A house explosion in Hardyston Township rocked most of Northwest New Jersey Tuesday night.

The house exploded at 11:05 p.m. on Grumm Road, located right across from Wallkill Valley Regional High School.

Nobody was home at the time of the explosion and no injuries were reported, the Hardyston Township Volunteer Fire Department said in its Facebook page.

Officials said the house is a “total loss.”

Wallkill Valley High School sustained some structural damage and will be closed Thursday.  The 8th grade and freshman dance has been canceled. A neighboring home has window damage.

The explosion was felt as far away as Hackettstown and Long Valley, according to a Facebook posts.

The cause of the explosion has not been determined.
