Hackettstown woman charged with theft, forgery

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Hackettstown woman is facing charges after she allegedly forged two checks.

Alexis Martone was charged with theft and forgery.

On August 14, police received a report of a theft from a residence. The victim reported that he had recently hired Martone to work for him at his business, which was based out of his home, police said.

Shortly after hiring Martone, the victim noticed two checks written against the business checking account that he did not recognize. After the checks were written, she stopped coming into work, police said.

Surveillance video was obtained and Martone was identified forging the victim’s signature and cashing the checks at two separate businesses, police said.

Additionally, the homeowner reported several items missing from his residence. The stolen property was valued at over $900.00, police said.
