Instagram test leads to user uproar and confusion

Did you log into Instagram Thursday morning and notice the app was completely redesigned? You are not alone.

Users who logged into Instagram on Thursday morning were
presented with a redesigned interface. Users were presented with a feed that
scrolled left to right, instead of the traditional up and down feed.

You can breathe a sigh of relief. The update was only meant
to be a small test, it mistakenly affected way more people then expected,
according to Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram

“That was supposed to be a very small test that went broad
by accident. Should be fixed now. If you’re still seeing it simply restart the
app. Happy Holidays!”, Navarra said in a tweet.

The old format has since been restored, but not before
people took to social media to express their disappointment. Most of the people
said they hated the redesign.

The last major redesign of the app was in March of 2016 when the company rolled out a new method of displaying users posts. Instead of displaying users posts in chronological order the company changed the algorithm to display newer posts and ones that had more interactions. The reasoning at the time of the change was due to user feedback.
