K-9 catches suspect wanted for assault

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Pennsylvania man who allegedly assaulted a person early Sunday morning was caught by Readington Township Police Department K-9 Agar.

At around 2:30 a.m., township police responded to the Siesta Motel, located at 615 Route 22, for an assault that just occurred, police said.

Upon arrival, officers learned that Thomas Merbedone, 33, of Bethlehem fled the area on foot, police said.

Officers along with K-9 Agar conducted a track and located Merbedone lying in the woods concealing himself under foilage east of the motel near Ditmar Blvd, police said.

Merbedone surrendered to K-9 Agar and was placed under arrest, police said.

Merbedone was charged with assault and hindering. He was also a wanted person out of Somerset County.

Merbedone was lodged in the Somerset County Jail.
