Lock your car! Byram Twp. police report high number of thefts, involving unlocked vehicles

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Byram Township police are warning residents to keep their vehicles locked after receiving an unusually high number of reports regarding thefts from unlocked motor vehicles.

The thefts are occurring during the overnight hours in residential sections of the township, police said.

Police urge residents to use common sense to avoid becoming a victim by following these tips:

1. Lock your vehicle.
2. Do not leave valuables in plain sight in your vehicle (wallet, cash, jewelry, etc.)
3. Do not leave your keys or key fob inside your vehicle.
4. If you do not have a garage available, consider installing a motion light in the area you park your vehicle.
5. Lock your vehicle

Residents should report suspicious activity immediately to police.
