Man faces DUI, drug charges after crash in Andover Twp.

ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man is facing several charges following a car crash in Andover Township Sunday evening,

Frank E. Kitchel Jr., 33, of Lafayette was charged with being in possession of heroin, driving while under the influence, refusal of a breathalyzer, failure to maintain lane, possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

At 11:41 p.m., an officer was patrolling Stickles Pond Road came upon a motor vehicle accident involving two vehicles, police said.

A Dodge Ram pickup being operated by Kitchel had sustained heavy front end damage following the accident involving a Volkswagen Beetle, police said.

Further investigation into the crash by officers led to the arrest of Kitchel for driving while under the influence and for possession of heroin, police said.

The Lakeland Emergency Squad responded to the scene and all occupants refused medical treatment, police said.

Kitchel was transported to the police station for testing where he allegedly refused to provide breath samples, police said.

Kitchel is scheduled for a pending court appearance in Sussex County Superior Court.
