LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A New York is facing drug charges including possession with intent to distribute marijuana following a traffic stop in Lopatcong Township Friday evening.
Edwin J. Cabrera, 25, of the Bronx was charged with possession of over 50 grams of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended, unregistered vehicle, failure to maintain lanes, improper turn signal and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
At around 10:46 p.m., a police officer observed a vehicle fail to maintain its lane of travel and also use an improper turn signal on Route 22. The officer then initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle near the Key City Diner, police said.
While the officers was speaking with the driver, who was identified as Cabrera, the officers allegedly detected the odor of raw marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said.
A search of the vehicle revealed over 4 ounces (124 grams) of raw marijuana that was individually packaged for sale. Also seized were 82 empty zip lock bags, which were consistent with the bags that some of the marijuana was found in, police said.
Cabrera was taken into custody. HE was lodged in the Warren County Jail pending a bail hearing.
