Police charge Washington man with theft by deception in Walmart scheme

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A Washington man was charged after he allegedly took items off the shelves at Walmart and then immediately returned them for a gift card, police said.

William Lagarenne, 57, was charged on Tuesday with theft by deception stemming from an incident that occurred on December 17, 2017 at Walmart, police said.

Lagarenne entered the store on December 17 and allegedly selected merchandise from the shelves and walked directly over to customer service to return them for a $65.01 gift card, police said.

Lagarenne was released pending a court appearance.
