UPDATE: Hopatcong man taken into custody after fleeing traffic stop

UPDATE (June 14, 2018): Christopher Candido was taken into custody Thursday evening in Stanhope based on a tip the park police received from someone who saw the news article about the incident on RNJ’s website, Morris County Park Police Detective Paul Williams said.

Original story:

ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Morris County Park Police are looking for a 26-year-old Hopatcong man who got away after a traffic stop Thursday afternoon, according to Morris County Park Police Detective Paul Williams.

Christopher Candido was pulled over by a park police officer at 151 Shippenport Rd in Roxbury Township for failure to signal turn, Williams said.

Williams said that Candido originally gave a false name to the officer and once the officer realized it was a fake name, Candido took off on foot into the wooded area off of Shippenport Rd.

When the officers determined his identity, the search was called off, Williams said.

Candido is 5-feet 9-inches tall, 150 pounds, last seen wearing a blue t-shirt, light blue jeans and gray sneakers. He has tattoos on his arms and noticeable gauges in his ears, Williams said.

Candido has a $750.00 Hopatcong Borough warrant. He also faces charges from the Morris County Park Police for hindering apprehension and obstruction but there could be additional charges, Williams said.

“There is no danger to the public,” Williams said.

Assisting with the search was Roxbury Township Police and the Morris County Sheriffs Office.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Candido is asked to call the Morris County Park Police at 973-326-7654.
