Vehicle catches fire in Sparta crash, but no injuries reported (PHOTOS)

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A single vehicle crash Thursday morning in Sparta Township did not result in any reported injures, despite the vehicle bursting into flames, Sparta Township Police Lieutenant John Lamon.

The crash was reported at around 7:50 a.m.at the intersection of Newton Sparta Rd and Pinkneyville Rd, Lamon said.

When officers arrived, they observed a red Ford Explorer Sport Trac on fire, Lamon said

Sabrina Deturo, 18, of Hewitt, NJ, stated to police that she was travelling west on Newton Sparta Road, when she passed out or fell asleep at the wheel, Lamon said.

Deturo’s vehicle veered off of the road into a grass area and caught fire, ultimately becoming fully engulfed, Lamon said.

The vehicle suffered major fire damage and Deturo was not injured, Lamon said.
