Woman arrested for drug possession after crashing into utility pole

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Sparta Township Police arrested a New York woman for drug possession after she crashed into a utility police Wednesday morning.

Shari Jones, 19, of Laurelton was charged with possession of marijuana, failing to maintain lane, careless driving, no insurance or registration and controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

At around 1:00 a.m., police responded to Route 517, in the area of the middle school, for a report of a one car motor vehicle accident.

When police arrived on scene, Jones complained of pain to her hand, wrist and lip due to the accident, police said.

While speaking with Jones, police allegedly detected the odor of marijuana emanating from her clothing and purse, police said.

A further search yielded marijuana in her purse and vehicle, police said.

Jones was examined by EMS personnel and refused further medical attention. She was placed under arrest, police said.

Jones was advised of a mandatory court date and released.
