HANOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – Three officers were injured and eight people were charged during a fight at the Hanover Marriott earlier this month, police said in a news release Tuesday.
On Sunday, Feb. 17 Hanover Police Srgeant. Anthony Vitanza, Officers Josh Williams, Mike Byrnes and Marc Leggour responded to the Hanover Marriott, located at 1401 Route 10 East, for a fight in progress involving several people, police said.
Upon arrival, Officer Williams attempted to speak with the hotel front desk employee to get information and was confronted by Oscar Coreas, 24, from Dover. Coreas told Officer Williams that he was not needed and to leave the hotel, police said.
Officer Williams asked Coreas to step aside so he could talk to the front desk employee. He continued telling Officer Williams to leave and refused to back away so Officer Williams put his hand up to create distance which caused him to become more belligerent and unruly, police said.
Sgt. Vitanza respond into the lobby area to assist Officer Williams as an angry crowd began forming. Officer Williams attempted to arrest Coreas for obstruction but he allegedly resisted causing other officers to respond to assist, police said.
During this incident, several officers from surrounding towns responded to help quell the large crowd that was forming, police said
Officer Ohlsen from Parsippany Police Department was assaulted and went to the hospital for his injuries. Both Sgt. Vitanza and Officer Williams went to the hospital as well for minor injuries, police said.
Coreas was charged with inciting a riot, failure to disperse, obstruction and disorderly conduct.
Erika Pineda-Rios, 21, from Morristown was charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, riot, failure to disperse, disorderly and resisting arrest.
Jean Pineda-Rios, 24, from Morristown and Jean Congolino-Mosquer, 23, from Parsippany were both charged with aggravated assault on law enforcement, riot, failure to disperse, disorderly, resisting arrest and obstruction.
Nelson Hernandez-Bernal, 25, from Morris Plains, Samantha Santiago, 27, from Morristown, Fredy Umanzor-Alvardo, 24, from Playa Del Ray, CA and Jose Guzman, 24, from Morristown were all charged with riot, failure to disperse and disorderly.
All were released pending court appearances.
