Driver charged with DWI after crashing into telephone pole

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man was charged with DWI after he crashed into a telephone pole Saturday night, according to Sparta Township Police Lieutenant John Lamon.

Jason Brown, 32, of Sparta DWI, careless driving, failure to keep right and failure to maintain lane.

On March 9 at around 11:55 p.m., police responded to the area of Glenside Trail for a report of a car that crashed into telephone pole, Lamon said.

When officers arrived on scene, they made contact with the driver, who was identified as Brown, and his female passenger. No one was injured, Lamon said.

As the officer was speaking with Brown, the officer allegedly detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Brown’s breath. When asked about the odor, Brown allegedly told police he had two beers earlier, Lamon said.

After completing field sobriety tests and Brown was placed under arrest for DWI, Lamon said.

Brown was released to a sober adult pending a court appearance.
