Driver charged with DWI after crashing into telephone pole in Hunterdon County

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Hunterdon County man was arrested early Monday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed into a telephone pole in Readington Township, police said.

The crash happened at around 1:51 a.m. on County Route 523 near the intersection of Mountain Road, police said.

According to police, Josue J. Calix Gamaz, 35, of Tewksbury Township was traveling north on County Route 523 near the intersection of Mountain Road when he struck a telephone pole.

The pole snapped in half causing the wires and pole to block County Route 523 and Mountain Road, police said.

Calix Gamaz failed the officers field sobriety tests and was then taken into custody, police said.

He was charged with DWI, possession of open an container, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to possess insurance card, and throwing objects from a motor vehicle.
