Long Valley man charged with DWI after crash on Route 24

MENDHAM BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – A Long Valley man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he crashed his car on Route 24 in Mendham Borough Saturday morning.

Alexander Papa, 28, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and failure to maintain a lane.

At 12:33 a.m., Papa crashed his 2012 Acura into the traffic light post at the corner of Route 24 and Cold Hill Road South. He then allegedly drove away, police said.

An officer had been nearby and heard the impact of the crash before driving towards the sound to investigate. Papa was then stopped near Tempe Wick Road where he was taken into custody, police said.

Papa was released pending a mandatory court appearance.
