Man, 81, attacked in store over ‘Make America Great Again’ hat

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – An 81-year-old Franklin Township man was assaulted at a grocery store after allegedly being confronted over his “Make America Great Again” hat, according to Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson.

The incident happened Monday at around 3:24 p.m. at a supermarket on Elizabeth Avenue, Robertson said.

The incident reportedly began after the victim was confronted about the red “Make America Great Again” hat he was wearing. The victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical attention, Robertson said.

Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Franklin Township Police Department are actively investigating the incident.
