Man charged with DUI after crash in Hackettstown

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Somerset County man is facing multiple charges after he crashed into a car Friday evening.

Michael Brennan, 53, of Branchburg was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, being under the influence of CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while under the influence, driving while under the influence in a school zone, possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and reckless driving.

At around 6:35 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Route 182 and Little St for a report of a motor vehicle crash, police said.

Through a police investigation it was determined that Brennan was travelling north on Route 182 in a 2015 Chevrolet when he struck the rear of a 2016 Subaru which was stopped in traffic, police said.

While the officer was talking with Brennan, the officer allegedly detected the odor of burnt marijuana. Brennan had in his possession two bags containing suspected marijuana, metal tube containing suspected burnt marijuana, rolling papers and a wooden ‘one hitter,’ police said.

No injuries were reported, police said.

Brennan was released pending a court appearance.
