NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man was sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting two children during a burglary, the prosecutor’s office said in a news release on Wednesday.
Craig Lassiter, 35, of Middletown was sentenced by the Honorable Thomas J. Critchley, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on February 21.
Lassiter admitted to committing multiple acts of sexual assault against two children under the age of sixteen while committing burglary on September 18, 2017 in Wantage Township.
Lassiter was sentenced to eighteen years state prison with eighteen years parole ineligibility pursuant to the Lunsford Act for two counts of aggravated sexual assault. He was given credit for 518 days served and also must have no contact with the victims or the victims’ families, and pay all mandatory fines and fees. At his release, he will be required to register under Megan’s Law and will be supervised under parole supervision for life.
In addition, Lassiter was sentenced to ten years state prison for one count of burglary. The sentence was ordered to run concurrent to the sexual assault sentences.
Lassister pled guilty on October 30, 2018, to two counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and one count of second-degree burglary.
The incident was investigated by the Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Jersey State Police.
