HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A 51-year-old Mansfield Township man is facing several charges including assault by auto and driving while intoxicated after a single-vehicle crash that injured his passenger earlier this year.
Kevin Jennings was charged on Jan. 30 with driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane, reckless driving and failure to wear seatbelt. He was additionally charged on March 5 with third-degree assault by auto.
On Jan. 30 at around 10:20 a.m., an officer was stopped at the intersection of West Valley Ave and Route 46 when the officer heard a loud impact. The officer observed a 2016 Dodge travelling westbound on Route 46 when the vehicle struck and uprooted a tree. The vehicle continued westbound, struck a sign and a second tree which was also uprooted, police said.
Valadean Smith, 53, of Mansfield Twp., NJ, passenger in the vehicle, sustained serious non-life threatening injuries. She was flown to Morristown Medical Center, police said.
The driver, who was identified as Jennings, sustained a head injury a refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.
Through a police investigation, it was determined that Jennings was allegedly operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Jennings was released pending a court appearance.
