Police find pot, ecstasy during traffic stop in Sparta Twp.

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man is facing drug charges following a traffic stop in Sparta Township Thursday afternoon.

Willia Kinard, 40, of Staten Island was charged with possession of marijuana, Possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of ecstasy, CDS in a motor vehicle and speeding.

At around 12:50 p.m., an officer observed a grey Mazda SUV allegedly travelling 84 mph in a 55 mph zone on Route 15, Sparta Township Police Lieutenant John Lamon said.

Upon stopping the vehicle and approaching the driver, who was identified as Kinard, the officer allegedly detected the odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle, Lamon said.

Kinard denied having any marijuana in his vehicle but after a search of the vehicle, police found marijuana, drug paraphernalia and four pills of suspected ecstasy, Lamon said.

Kinard was placed under arrest and was later released pending a mandatory court appearance.
