Small chlorine leak at Picatinny prompts Hazmat response

The Picatinny Arsenal Fire Department and Morris County Hazmat responded to an odor of chlorine at one of the water treatment facilities at Pictainny Arsenal Tuesday afternoon, according to the Picatinny Arsenal Public Affairs office.

Firefighters pinpointed a small leak to a supply unit at the facility.

There was nobody in the building and no personnel were in need of treatment.

The fire chief said the leak is not large enough to pose any threat to the installation.

Mutual aid partners were called as part of standard operating procedure to ensure that there are enough emergency responders on call in case other situations.
