Sussex County woman accused of elbowing police officer

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County woman is facing charges after she allegedly assaulted an officer Saturday evening in Franklin Borough, according to Franklin Borough Police Chief Chief Gregory Michael Cugliari

Danielle Kapetanakis, 38, of Hamburg was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and simple assault.

The incident happened at around 6:30 p.m. when police officers responded to a domestic dispute at the Brick and Brew, located on State Highway 23, Cugliari said.

When offers arrived, they observed two people engaged in a verbal dispute, Cugliari said.

As officers intervened in the dispute, Kapetanakis allegedly became extremely aggressive. She engaged in fighting, threatening, and violent behavior. She attempted to physically attack the man with whom she was in engaged in a dispute, Cugliari said.

While Detective Flora attempted to intervene in the altercation, Kapetanakis purposely struck Flora with her elbow in his eye, causing an injury to the officer, Cugliari said.

Kapetanakis was ultimately detained and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and simple assault on the male with whom she was initially engaged in a dispute.

Detective Flora was treated by the Wallkill Valley First Aid Squad and refused further medical treatment at this time.

Kapetanakis was lodged in the Sussex County Jail. She also had an outstanding warrant from Butler, NJ.

This is the second aggravated assault on a police officer in three days in Franklin Borough. Jordana M. Cappiello, 26, of Hamburg was charged after she allegedly bit an officer while being arrested Thursday evening.
