Warren County Prepares for Count of Homeless Population

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — On January 23rd, The Warren County Department of Human Services will conduct this year’s federally-mandated “point-in-time” count of all sheltered and unsheltered homeless persons in the county. The count will begin at midnight on the 23rd., with help from students of social work at Centenary University to conduct field surveys. The department also intends to collaborate with services to offer outreach to the area’s homeless population.

The Human Services Administration will host two free resource events in Hackettstown and Phillipsburg for the homeless and those at risk of homelessness later that same day. Although the event is free and open to all, Human Services warns that it will be a timed event and therefore they will be unable to accept any early arrivals. Both events will be open strictly from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, lunch is provided at no cost.

In Phillipsurg, resources will be available in the Mercy Hall of St. Phillip and St. James Church on 430 South Main Street. Services will include:

  • Mental Health Assistance
  • Senior Services
  • Job Readiness
  • Free Flu Shots
  • Legal Resources
  • Haircuts, Food, and Clothing
    Giveaway
  • Education Resources
  • Housing Assistance
  • Veteran’s Services
  • Substance Abuse Services
  • Transportation Information

In Hackettstown, services and resources will be hosted in the Trinity House of Trinity United Methodist Church at 212 East Moore Street. The following services will be available:

  • Substance Use Services
  • Transportation Services Information

The administration asks that attendees only bring with them the utmost necessities in order to conserve a limited amount of space at both locations. Bags will be provided for any clothing or other materials acquired at the events.

In the event of significant snowfall on the 23rd, Project Homeless/Community Connect will occur on January 25th.
