Woman faces additional charge following death of passenger in Rockaway Twp. crash

ROCKAWAY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Rockaway woman is facing an additional charge in connection with a single-vehicle crash that occurred during the early morning hours on Saturday, Feb. 2 in Rockaway Township, Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp said in a news release on Wednesday.

Samantha Viscardi, 22, was initially charged on Feb. 2 with third-degree assault by auto. Upon the passenger’s death, Viscardi was charged with second-degree reckless vehicular homicide.

It’s alleged, that Samantha Viscardi, 22, was the driver of a motor vehicle involved in the single-vehicle crash that occurred in the area of 435 Green Pond Road, Knapp said.

The subsequent investigation revealed that in addition to Viscardi, there was one other passenger in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The passenger, who sustained serious bodily injury in the crash, subsequently died as a result of those injuries, Knapp said.

The passenger’s name was not released, Knapp said.

Members of the Rockaway Township Police Department, the Morris County Sheriff’s Office – Crime Scene Investigation, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit assisted in the investigation.
