CLINTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Red Mill Museum Village will host an open house recruiting event on Tuesday, Nov. 7 for individuals interested in becoming a docent.
The event will be held on the second floor of the Administrative Building from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Food and refreshments will be provided.
Attendees will be treated to an example tour, guided by one of its seasoned docents, and be provided with information on how to become a docent.
“While tours are scheduled throughout the year, docents are busiest in the late spring, when many school trips are scheduled,” said Timothy Doyle, Assistant Executive Director of the Red Mill Museum Village.
School tours typically take place on weekdays starting at 9:45 a.m. and conclude by 2:00 p.m. Docents are expected to walk throughout the property and be able to stand throughout the tour. This is a paid position.
“Preserving the Past, Educating the Present, Inspiring the Future!” is key to the mission of the Red Mill Museum Village and our docents get to engage thousands of students annually through our school tour program. Some of our tour guides have been doing this for decades. It is a truly amazing legacy,” Doyle said.
“The beauty of our site together with an engaging staff brings history to life at the Red Mill Museum Village. Working here as a docent brings me so much joy when I see the faces of the students light up with excitement learning how people lived and worked in a time so different from today,” Veteran docent Nelly Fokken said.
