Progress in extending N.J. Transit commuter rail service to Andover is slowly but surely chugging along.

RNJ’s Rob DiRienzo spoke with Chuck Walsh, chairman of the Lackawanna Cutoff Historical Committee:

The laying of the track to Andover, half of which has already been completed, cannot continue until November at the end of the Indiana Bat mating season, per federal regulations. In the meantime, Walsh said N.J. Transit has appropriated funds to repair the bridge and tunnel infrastructure of the Cutoff, some of which is over a century old.

Walsh said that with the amount of highway congestion and people moving out of the region in favor of more urban areas, it is only a matter of time before the Cutoff is restored in full to Scranton, Pa.
