Independence Township residents will see a tax increase this year. At their latest meeting the Independence Township Committee formally adopted the 4.3 million dollar municipal budget for 2017. Independence Mayor Bob Giordano says that the increase will total approximately 38 dollars on the average home priced at 240,000 dollars.
According to Giordano, that increase represents an additional 1.5 cents on the municipal tax rate. Giordano also noted that the Warren County budget will be flat this year, and the township is now awaiting final adoption of the Great Meadows Regional School District budget to evaluate the overall effect on taxpayers.
