Driver, passenger switch seats; both charged with DWI

HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – The Hopatcong Borough Police Department charged two people for allegedly driving while under the influence during one traffic stop on Monday evening.

Hopatcong police officer Bruzzese responded to Brooklyn Mtn Road on a report of an erratic driver. The officer located the vehicle and saw it cross over the double yellow lines and the fog line, police said.

Officer Bruzzese stopped the vehicle on North Way and when the vehicle stopped, the driver allegedly moved over to the passenger seat and the passenger allegedly moved over to the driver’s seat. This can be seen on the patrol car video recording, police said.

Brian Gleason, 46, of Hopatcong denied moving over to the passenger seat. He was given field sobriety tests and failed. He was arrested and taken to the headquarters where he refused the Alcotest, police said.

Gleason was charged with DWI, reckless driving, driving while suspended, failure to maintain lane, no insurance, refusal to take the Alcotest, unregistered vehicle and expired inspection.

Jennifer Krip, 47, of Hopatcong who was the original passenger and then the driver was also intoxicated, police said.

Krip stated that she was driving. The vehicle was running and she was ready to drive home. She was given field sobriety tests and failed. She was arrested and taken to headquarters where she refused the Alcotest, police said.

Krip was charged with DWI, refusal, reckless driving, unregistered vehicle and no insurance.

Both were later released to Gleason’s family member.
