Helicopter crashes into apartment complex parking lot in Chatham

CHATHAM BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – A helicopter went down near an apartment complex on the 500 block of Main St at 6:26 p.m. on Friday.

The 1450 pound Robinson R44 was travelling from Richmond, Virginia to Lincoln Park, New Jersey when it experienced some type of malfunction and came down in an apartment complex parking lot in Chatham Borough.

The helicopter’s tail did hit a garage.

The 54-year-old pilot was uninjured and his passenger, who is in his late 40s or early 50s, was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries. Both are reportedly from New Jersey.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board will be at the crash site on Saturday to continue the investigation.
