Officer’s nose leads to man being under the influence of pot

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – An Allamuchy Twp. man is facing charges after an officer allegedly followed the scent of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle the man was driving.

John Sacco, 58, was charged last week with being under the influence, driving while under the influence, maintenance of lamps, reckless driving and driving while under the influence in a school zone.

On August 23 at 9:59 p.m., a town police officer was behind a vehicle, which allegedly had a brake light out, and the officer also allegedly detected the odor of burnt marijuana in the air, police said.

The officer followed the vehicle and and the odor of burnt marijuana appeared to be coming from that vehicle, police said.

The officer stopped the vehicle on Route 517 and as the officer approached the vehicle, the officer allegedly detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle, police said.

Through a police investigation it was determined that Sacco was allegedly driving while under the influence of cannabis, police said.

Sacco was released pending a court appearance.  Assisting at the scene was K-9 Jada.
