Pa. man stopped for speeding, arrested for drugs

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Pennsylvania man is facing drug charges after he was allegedly speeding in Sparta Township.

Phillip Wilson, 36, of East Stroudsburg was charged with possession of oxycodone, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of Controlled Dangerous Substance in a motor vehicle, speeding and fictitious plates.

On August 26 at 2:29 p.m., a township officer observed a vehicle travelling 73 mph in a 55 mph on Route 15 north, police said.

After stopping the vehicle, the officer approached the driver side window to speak with Wilson and he was unable to provide any registration documents for the vehicle, police said.

While speaking with Wilson, the officer detected the odor of raw marijuana emanating from within the vehicle. When asked about the smell, he allegedly stated that he had smoked marijuana in the vehicle in the past, but not recently, police said.

Wilson was asked to step out of the vehicle and he was searched. The officer allegedly found two green colored pills, in a small ziplock, in his pants pocket. He allegedly stated that the pills were Oxycodone, police said.

Police also allegedly located a small plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana under the front passenger seat, police said.

Wilson was advised of a required court appearance and released without further incident.
