HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A 16-year-old boy is facing a theft charge after he allegedly stole a bicycle from the middle school to make it to the high school on time Tuesday morning, police said.
At 7:49 a.m., town police responded to the Hackettstown Middle School, 500 Washington St, in reference to a theft of a bicycle, police said.
Through a police investigation, it was determined that the juvenile stole the bicycle from a bike rack and then rode the bike more than a half-mile to the high school, 599 Warren St, in an attempt not to be late to school, police said.
The juvenile was released to a guardian and the bike was returned to its owner, police said.
Police urge students not to steal a bike but to go to bed on time, set an alarm and pack your bag the night before in order to avoid being late to school.
