1 airlifted to Morristown Hospital after head-on crash with Mt. Olive Officer

Mount Olive Twp. (MORRIS COUNTY)– Police say that the Morris County vehicular homicide and major crimes units are both investigating an officer-involved head-on collision on River Road that occured at 12:42 PM.

Police say the driver of an “erratic vehicle” travelling southbound on River Road sideswiped a car travelling northbound in front of Mount Olive Police Lieutenant Philip Lucivero before it swerved twice and struck Lt. Lucivero head-on.

The Driver of the erratic vehicle reportedly had to be extricated from their vehicle with the Jaws of Life and was airlifted to Morristown Memorial Hospital. Police have not yet identified that driver as their family has not yet been notified. Their condition was stated as unknown despite the homicide investigation. Lt. Lucivero was transported by ground to Morristown Memorial Hospital with injuries that police described as “not serious.”

The family of 3 that was sideswiped before the head-on collision did not report any injuries. They were identified as 31 year old Nicholas, 58 year old Maureen and 61 year old Rocco Nittoli of Matawan, NJ.
